an evening of story, poetry, and discussion
with author and mythologist Michael Meade
Saturday, February 21st ~ 7:00 pm
Quimper Unitarian Universalist Church ~ 2333 San Juan Avenue, Port Townsend
What story are we all living right now?
Using re-creation stories from many cultures, Michael Meade addresses the current troubles in nature and culture, in politics and religion from the view of myth and imagination. “Without a sense of myth and story life makes no sense, for myth reveals the patterns of life and makes the world meaningful.” Myth makes the most sense when nothing seems to make sense anymore.
At certain times the cloth of culture becomes so thin that the sense of everything just “hanging by a thread” becomes the common experience. This is the message delivered by tragic events and economic collapses. Suggesting that “the net of life is both delicate and indestructible,” Meade reviews environmental disasters, economic crises, and social confusion through the elegant, in-depth lens of myth and story.
Join us for an evening of re-creation stories, a tapestry of poems, mythic tales and cogent commentary that offer surprising insights and a mythological view of critical issues affecting the world at this time. Celebrate mythic imagination and Michael Meade’s new book The World Behind the World
